It's Easy Being Green (journal article)
Max, S. (2007). It's Easy Being Green. Money, 36(1), 51-54. doi: Article.
The article, "It's Easy Being Green" tells us that people are going to great lengths to go green in their homes and environments and how it pays off in the long run to be green. By going green you can save energy and money by making a lot of small adjustments. The typical home wastes 15% to 20% of heat and by going green this needless waste could be prevented. If a small home looses that much energy, imagine how much an average school would loose. Going green can also save your lungs. Indoor air can be five times more polluted than outdoor air due to volatile organic compounds found in many paints, glues and stains used to construct many buildings. By going green, this problem could be prevented. Going green also helps to save the planet. When simple additions are added to a structure such as low flow toilets and rainwater filtration systems, gallons and gallons of water can be preserved and not put to waste. With these simple adjustments to homes and buildings such as schools, a great difference can be made.
Overall I though this article brought up some important issues and key idea that I was unaware of. After reading the article, I believe that it is very important to be "green" when building or renovating a home.
I think that this school has done great work to reduce energy usage. They have saved so much money and in the long run are better off than schools that have not taken these ideas into consideration. This school should be an example for other schools to follow.

A Ferris Texas school faced rising energy costs due to they old equipment and outdated heating systems which were wasting hundreds of dollars of money every year. In fact, many of the outdated systems in the school were not even working properly causing the to waste energy and money. The school needed change and decided to renovate many of its existing heating systems in hopes of saving energy and cash. Along with the heating renovations, the school also replaced and renovated old plumbing systems saving money on water bills as well as hating bills. With all of the renovations complete, the school was able to save 60% on lighting and was able to reduce waste by 22%
This school proves that only a little bit of renovations go a long way. It shows that updating old schools to be energy efficient is not only cost worthy but helpful to the environment.

Due to the rising energy crisis people want to consume less energy and become more energy efficient. To do this, many people are cutting gasoline usage and home heating costs but to have the greatest impact, corporate industries must also take part in the "going green" idea. When cutting back and going green people can save a lot of money. If you replace your light bulbs, cut back a few minutes in the shower and put electronics on a carbon strip, studies show that you can save as much as $700. The government should place laws on energy consumption and help with the energy crisis.
This article shows that cutting back on little things help the bigger picture. If people only would take a few simple easy steps, the world would be a greener place.

Schools and people should focus on being environmentally conscience and not just focusing on the "three R's" of reduce, reuse and recycle. Schools need to teach students how to be environmentally friendly for future generations. Some ways to recycle in the classroom include using both sides of the paper and saving old paper for scrap use. Teacher's should also encourage students to "turn it off" and turn off lights and other electrical devices when not in use. Teachers also can teach their students the importance of water conservation and the importance of shorter showers.
This article had many ideas for me to use in the classroom as a future teacher so i can make my classroom more energy efficient. Overall, it made many valid points.
